PANJIM: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar inspected the infrastructural expansion plans and works being carried out at Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC), at Bambolim.
After holding a meeting with the Dean and officials of Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC), the chief minister said that in view of the increasing intake capacity, GMC needs corresponding infrastructure creation.
He said, “This medical college was designed for 70 students, subsequently the number of students increased to 100 and then to 150, therefore there are various demands. As the capacity doubled, new blocks had to be built and the old ones were not in use anymore.”
Stating that there are many considerations before taking up further expansion works, Parrikar said, “It is a working hospital and therefore you have to plan in such a way that there is no disturbance to its functioning. The architects will complete the plans soon and the works should begin in the next two-three months.”
Responding to a question on maintenance he said that as announced preventive cum regular maintenance has been entrusted to GSIDC and in another fortnight a scheme will be announced and implemented.
Regarding water shortage, Parrikar said, “Immediately we have taken up using water which is now being wasted. Treat it and use for non-consumption purpose like cleaning of laundry.”
