PANJIM: The pending work on the memorial of then Chief Minister late Manohar Parrikar will be completed within six months, Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant said on his predecessor’s second death anniversary on Wednesday.
Sawant said the late BJP leader’s work was a guiding force for his government.

“The work on the memorial could not be completed due to the COVID-19 pandemic last year. Nevertheless, it will be done in next 5-6 months. I have already given instructions to the officers concerned to expedite the work,” he told reporters at the memorial ‘Smriti Sthal’ in Miramar.
Parrikar passed away on March 17, 2019 at the age of 63 years after battling with pancreatic cancer for nearly a year. The foundation stone for a memorial dedicated to Parrikar, also country’s former Defence Minister, was laid on his birth anniversary on December 13, 2019.
Sawant, who has often called Parrikar his mentor, said his government is taking ahead the policies and ideologies of Parrikar, who had worked for the betterment of the down-trodden.
“He (Parrikar) was committed for the betterment of common man and also for all round development of the State. My government is also working in that direction. My government will endeavour and lay thrust to promote manpower development and skill development,” Sawant added.
He also highlighted the need to follow the ideas and path shown by late Parrikar to achieve progress and development in all spheres of life.
Deputy Chief Minister Chandrakant Kavlekar, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane, WRD Minister Filipe Neri Rodrigues, Revenue Minister Jennifer Monserrate, BJP leaders and government officials besides the family members of Manohar Parrikar were also present at the memorial to pay tribute to the then CM.
