PANJIM: Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar on Thursday announced reservations of wards in the 189 panchayats for the Scheduled Caste (SC) community, at the next local body election.
In a tribute to the architect of the Indian Constitution Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar on his 125th birth anniversary, Parsekar also announced a housing scheme in Ambedkar’s name, providing affordable housing to all sections.
“We have finance for the housing scheme; the only constraint is land. We are currently in the process of identifying a site for the project,” Parsekar said.
The chief minister said the government is committed towards giving equal rights to the SC communities and as a step in that direction, announced the reservation of wards in panchayats.
Parsekar said that as announced in the State Budget, benefits of nearly 21 schemes drafted for ST will be extended to the SC community.
The chief minister also conferred the Dalit Mitra Puraskar to Ramesh Kulkarni, Sakharam Korgaonkar, Ganesh Parwar and Gangaram Morajikar.
The government has also decided to constitute a State level committee, to chalk out a celebration plan to observe the birth anniversary of the leader throughout the year.
