Part B of 6th Pay for teachers taking shape

It may not be a long wait now for teachers to get benefits of Part B of the Sixth Pay Commission recommendation.
Higher Secondary Teachers Association of Goa (HISTAG) as well as All Goa School Teachers Association have been pursuing the issue at the highest level. The issue which was virtually pushed to the back-burner due to poor financial scenario, now seems to have come alive, after several rounds of deliberations.
HISTAG President Girish Chodankar and AGSTA chief Vitobha Desai have had three meetings with the Chief Minister Digambar Kamat besides more discussions with officers of Finance Department.
“Yes, we have received positive signals from the government on the issue”, Chodankar said when contacted by this paper.
He admitted that they had met the chief minister three times on the issue. “We have tried to impress upon the government that this long-pending demand of teachers is highly justifiable and needs to be fulfilled”, Chodankar who has been persistently pursuing the matter said.
If Part B is implemented, around 9000 primary, high school and higher secondary teachers will benefit to the tune of Rs 2000 – 3000 per month depending upon their date of joining, sources said.
The issue remained pending for long as the financial position was not strong. In fact, the chief minister who also holds the finance portfolio was not keen earlier in view of financial constraints. Now there is much hope that the government would give it nod either in the Budget proposal or soon after the budget, sources said.
