He told media persons on Friday that the government has tried it’s best to maintain the standards of the floats as the event this year will see participants from other countries as well.
He stated that the event is unique as it is only celebrated in Goa in the country. He also claimed that there is a deal between the Government of Goa and other countries that six participants from the floats held in Goa will participate in the carnival floats held in South Africa and Liverpool.
“The UK (Liverpool) and South Africa participants have already landed in Goa. We have managed to bring them here, to showcase their talent and culture of the Carnival, thereby introducing an international flavour to the event happening in Goa,” Parulekar said.
He said the screening committee is working on the event and have also advocated a dress code to avoid obscenity during the event. “UK has funded Rs 1 crore to us for the success of this event. Even the Goa government has funded a lot of money as we want to take the Goa Carnival to the next level,” he stated.
Parulekar added that media from Bangalore and Delhi have invited to cover the Carnival in order to introduce this event to other people in the country.
The Carnival floats committee is also looking for a person who can be this year’s King Momo. The candidates should have the physique of King Momo as seen in the past years. Carnival celebrations will be held from February 6 to February 9.
