Passengers stranded after airline cancels flight

VASCO: There was chaos at Dabolim International Airport after a Spice Jet flight to Mumbai was cancelled leaving over 100 passengers disappointed. Many who had urgent matters in Mumbai hired taxis to rush to Mumbai as the Navy denied permission to operate another flight beyond the restricted hours. Landing services are allowed only till 1 pm due to the ongoing runway repairs.

The Spice Jet flight SG 487 Mumbai-Goa-Mumbai with 140 passengers arrived at Dabolim airport Friday afternoon. Engineers while attending to the plane, as part of a routine check, noticed a problem with the aircraft’s flap and some damage to the rear tyre of the aircraft.
“It must have got damaged while landing. It was attended to and replaced. However the engineers decided that the flight cannot operate due to a technical problem in the flap,” Airport Director K Srinivasa Rao said.
Sources also said that Spice Jet officials requested the Navy for permission to operate a special flight but this was denied. Spice Jet will run an additional flight at 5am on Saturday to ferry the stranded passengers.
