PANJIM: The OPD block of Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC) came under a scare after a major power supply line burnt due to a short circuit.
The short circuit caused panic amongst patients and their relatives at the OPD block, however, no major untoward incident was reported.
Power supply to GMC was immediately shut and electricity staff put on duty to rectify the fault. The fire and emergency services too were called to the spot but returned after inspecting the site and asserting that the short circuit had been curtailed.
The electricity maintenance staff rectified the faults and resumed the supply of power in an hour.
While the short circuit did not cause any major damage, given the importance of the place, better electricity infrastructure and most importantly, the question about regular maintenance of the electricity cables comes to the surface once again.
