MARCEL, SEPT 23
In view of the Ayodhya verdict, which has been deferred for September 28, Ponda Police on Thursday formed a Peace Committee comprising various religious representatives from Ponda taluka.
Ponda Sub-divisional Police Officer, DySP, Seraffin Dias and Police Inspector CL Patil guided the members present during the meeting on their role in the Peace Committee.
According to Ponda Police, the committee will help in maintaining peace during any untoward incident in the taluka.
PI Patil said all the precautionary measures have been undertaken so that no untoward incident takes place.
“I urge people not to take law in their hands and the verdict should be respected. People should not come on the streets or break law in whatsoever protest. Various leaders and political figures have also appealed to the people to maintain peace,” he said.
“We are taking no chance and will strictly monitor the area. Wherever people notice any anti-social activity, then please report it to us and do not get carried away with rumours,” added PI Patil.
“The Peace Committee will also help us to connect to people in trouble times to maintain peace and harmony in the society,” said PI Patil.
