MARGAO: Margao MLA Digambar Kamat has responded to rumours about his son Yogiraj Kamat’s entry into politics, stating that it is up to the people of Margao to decide whether they want to support him or not. Speaking at a press conference in Margao, Kamat made it clear that he had no plans to join the Central government and that nobody had approached him about it.
“In politics, each one has to struggle and find ways for himself,” Kamat said when questioned by reporters. “He (Yogiraj) needs to help me if he has an interest in politics. In the past, he had helped me a lot, but it is now up to him and the people of Margao to decide whether to make an entry into politics or not.”
The speculation about Yogiraj’s entry into politics has been fuelled by his frequent appearances at public events in Margao. However, Kamat said he would ‘decide on giving entry to his son’, considering the public support.
Kamat was one of eight MLAs who defected from Congress and joined the BJP. There are rumours
that the BJP may ask him to take a position at the national level.
Kamat also stated that he maintained good relationships with his councillors and political leaders in Goa. “My nature is such that politically, I am not finding any difficulty in dealing with anybody. Politics is separate from relationships,” he said.
