PANJIM: Tourism minister Dilip Parulekar has denied that there was any pressure from his side to have the Sunburn festival at Pilerne, even as unconfirmed reports suggest that he wants the event in his constituency.
“The permissions committee will inspect other venues such as Mandrem, Anjuna, Colva and Cavelossim and thereafter take a decision on where the event could be held,” he said.
It is now confirmed that Sunburn will not take place in Candolim and the next venue is likely to be Mandrem. Sunburn organisers have explicitly said that they want a beach location for the event.
“Let the organisers show us a venue area of 1 lakh or 1.5 lakh sq metres for the event that has all the requirements for parking and we will consider it,” Parulekar said. I have no personal agenda in rejecting Candolim as the venue for Sunburn.  “People face hardships and I won’t allow a repeat of last year’s problems due to Sunburn event in Candolim,” Parulekar asserted.
Herald has already received responses from locals from Mandrem who are opposing the Sunburn event in this area.
