According to Pernem police, linesman Vijay Maulingkar complained that he along with his assistant, Vijay Gawandi, were performing their duties at Sarmale ward of Pernem Municipal Council (PMC), when the accused councillor assaulted him with slaps and also abused him.
The complainant further stated that the councillor also threatened his assistant with dire consequences.
Police further informed that linesman, Vijay Maulingkar, was referred for medical examination and the report was awaited.
The motive behind the assault is not known and probe in this regard is ongoing.
Pernem police registered the case against Councillor Salgaokar under Sections 332 and 353.
Pernem Police Station Head Constable Mukund Parab is investigating the case.
