PERNEM: The cry of Bhironde and Mayekar locals coming under Pernem Municipal Council jurisdiction for drinking water supply since December has fallen on deaf ears of the PWD officials.
The residents of Bhironde and Mayekar from Ward Number 2 of Pernem municipality are in tears because they haven’t received a single drop of water through their taps from December onwards resulting facing a major inconvenience especially the senior citizens in fetching the water from a spring, which is at a kilometre distance.
“Since the houses in these wards are located in the hilly area, the PWD water supply does not reach to their household taps until released with pressure,” the aggrieved locals informed.
“We gave complaints, even visited the PWD office personally but till date the issue is not resolved. None of the officials have come to the ward in the last two months. Around 10 to 12 houses do not receive a single drop of water,” they claimed.
“We fetch water from a spring which is located at around one-km ahead where people take their two wheelers and get water in gallons. When we call the PWD office nobody answers the calls. If we ask the PWD staff then they tell us to contact this or that person,” the locals said.
“Water should be released at least on the alternate days. Since December we haven’t received water and even after making several complaints as well as oral requests, our requests are left unheard. We cannot sit at home waiting for water supply or leave our jobs and run from pillar to post for water. The government promised free water but here there is no water even after paying bills,” A Mayekar, a local lamented.
