PERNEM: With late night parties hosted by the resorts, hotels & clubs, noise pollution along the beaches along Pernem’s coastline, which were once considered as peaceful, is haunting the locals.
With the increase in the number of foreign and domestic tourists visiting the state, several resorts, hotels and clubs have sprung up on Pernem’s coastline.
The locals have alleged that with the sole intention of making more profit, these hotels and clubs have started playing loud music late night to entertain the tourists, which has proved to be nightmare for residents.
They further complained that after consuming alcohol, many tourists behave rudely with the locals. Most resorts and clubs are run by non-Goans and have shown no concern towards the residents by playing loud music at high decibels. The locals further alleged that loud music is being played even after 10 pm which continues till 5 am is punishable under the Noise Pollution Act.
According to the locals, the clubs at Gawdewada in Morjim are found playing loud music. They lower the sound during a police check, and later start playing loud music when police exit their premises. Only a few locals say that they have been complaining to the police about the noise pollution.
Pernem PI Rahul Parab said, “We have not received any written complaint yet. But whenever we get call saying loud music is played, we always go and verify if it is happening. If anything illegal is happening than action will be taken”.
