Shirodkar, who was invited by “Matrubumi Goa”, a social organisation at Capshe, Digas Panchawadi, was assaulted by three people, including a woman, during the meeting, on Sunday evening.

The incident happened in the presence of eight policemen, who were at the meeting site. The activist later filed complaint before Ponda Police.

In a memorandum submitted to the DGP, the PFG has demanded a fair, time-bound and unbiased investigation into the incident and quick punitive action.

The Front demanded that action under IPC and CrPC be taken against those indulge in the assault and to investigate in a time-bound manner the motive behind the attack.

“ To ensure that through tough measures and police action, a strong message is sent to anti-social elements and political workers that such assaults/intimidation has no place in a democratic society and the core tenets of the ‘rule of law’, which governs the society, shall prevail at all times,” PFG said. They have also urged the DGP to ensure social activists, who are fighting for people’s cause, are given required protection.
