PANJIM: The one-day strike called by pharmacies across the country was peaceful and no untoward incidents were recorded in Goa.
The Chemist and Druggist Association of Goa (CDAG) thanked the people for supporting the bandh and for being prepared for the day by purchasing medicines in advance. Around 600 chemists in Goa and around 9 lakh across the country remained shut from Monday midnight to Tuesday midnight.
CDAG President Prasad Tamba said, “We are happy that the one-day strike called by the All India Organisation of Chemists and Druggists (AIOCD) was peaceful and no untoward incident occurred in Goa.”
Stating that the strike could be organised successfully because of the wide-spread public support, he said, “People have supported us in this strike. They were prepared and purchased their medicines in advance. We are thankful to the people for cooperating in making the strike successful.”
600 pharmacies in Goa, and around 9 lakh pharmacies across the country, protested the proposed e-portal for the regulation of sale of medicines by the Central Health and Family Welfare Ministry.
Only pharmacies in government hospitals provided services to the patients, irrespective of in-patients from the hospitals or walk-in prescriptions. However, pharmacies in private hospitals provided services only to patients admitted in the hospital.
