PONDA: Residents of Ponda can now look forward to an efficient treatment of sewage using the state-of-art Phytorid technology.
PWD Minister Sudin Dhavlikar on Thursday laid the foundation stone for the Rs 45 lakh sewage treatment system (phytorid technology), a pilot project undertaken by the Sewerage and Infrastructural Development Corporation of Goa Ltd (SIDCGL) at Warkhande-Ponda on Thursday evening.
“The capacity of the 0.5 MLD plant at Warkhande can be increased to either .75 MLD or 1 MLD, depending on the need. We are also planning to build a similar sewage plant for residents of Khadpabandh and remaining parts of Warkhande. This will have a capacity of 3 MLD and the site has been already identified,” said Dhavlikar.
“Other than these two projects, there will be an Rs 400 crore Sewage Treatment Plant which will cover Bethora, some parts of Curti, Ponda city, Kavlem, Bandora and some parts of Veling in Priol. The process will start within the next six months,” informed Dhavlikar.
In his address, Ponda MLA Lavoo Mamledar said the sewage treatment system will be completed within six months. Others present at the function included Chairman of Law commission Chairman Narendra Savoikar, SIDCGL Vice-Chairman Sanjeev Dessai, PWD Chief Engineer Dattaprasad Borkar, Ponda Deputy Collector and PMC Chief Officer Johnson Fernandes, PMC administrator Narayan Navti and others.
According to SIDCGL, Phytorid technology can be easily implemented in cities and rural areas for treatment of wastewater. It can be used for a wide variety of applications, such as the treatment of municipal/domestic wastewater, sludge management and treatment of industrial or agricultural effluents.
Besides being self-sustainable and easy to maintain, the Phytorid technology works on gravity, has no electric power requirement and generates no odour and mosquito menace.
