CALANGUTE: Pilerne’s fire service team undertook a gruelling drive to clear trees and branches that had fallen on electricity lines in Calangute constituency. Equipped with cutters and ladders, the team cleared many trees in Nagoa-Arpora, Calangute, Candolim and Parra. The electricity department is also working overtime to restore power supply.
Many huge trees and branches came crashing down on electricity wires, leaving areas without electricity for three days. The lack of electricity forced many locals to have sleepless nights. Calangute and Arpora-Nagoa are the worst affected areas. However, no major tragedy has been reported so far.
“We cannot blame the electricity department for power failures as cyclonic winds are making our lives miserable. Where will they run? They too are human beings like us, but they did a good job, especially the fire service team that helped the department restore the lights,” said Natty D’Souza, a local.
