MAPUSA: A notified motorcycle ‘pilot’ stand was inaugurated on Monday at the hands of Dy Speaker and Calangute MLA, Michael Lobo, in the presence Calangute Sarpanch Anthony Menezes and other panch members.
Speaking on the occasion, Lobo said development was planned in Calangute and this motorcycle ‘pilot’ stand, notified under Directorate of Transport with separate parking area with interlocking pavers system, was part of it.
No crime has been registered against any ‘pilot’ till date and the mode is generally considered safe.
No other persons other than motorcycle pilot can park in the notified area and a fine of Rs 250 would be imposed on anyone parking there, he said.
“This Rs 1.39 lakh project includes parking from Shantadurga temple to Jack Sequeira statue, with proper bus bays and two and four wheeler parking,” he added.
By spending Rs 70 lakh, the LT and HT wired has been taken underground and further provision for ornamental lamps has also been made.
Another motorcycle stand can be set up at the beach, if required, to provide better service to tourists visiting the beach, he said.
Lobo also spoke about several reminders to the CM regarding unsolved taxi issues, saying the CM had promised to take up the issue in September that remains unsolved.
