PANJIM: A 77-year-old woman has filed a complaint with the Goa State Human Rights Commission (GSHRC) seeking justice over what she called ill-treatment, abuse and violation of human rights which she is allegedly suffering in the old age home run by a charity institute at Aldona.
In her complaint on Tuesday, Stella Doulton has accused the old age home’s managing committee of threatening inmates and shunting out those who have been residing in the home for more than five years on fabricated charges, to make way place for new admissions.
Doulton, who came to the old age home in November 2006 after paying the stipulated amount and rent stated that the living conditions at the home are unhygienic and that the food is of poor quality. She said that when she complained the management began harassing her.
She also informed that none of the staff is trained nor qualified.
The complainant informed that she has been served a notice on April 5, directing her to leave the old age home by April 30. Doulton said that she had filed a police complaint with the Mapusa police station on April 23 and with the director of Social Welfare; yet, no action has been initiated.
