MARGAO: Officials of the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) on Friday descended on the Cuncolim Industrial Estate to ascertain the extent of hazardous waste dumped in plot L-2.

The GSPCB officials made their entry into the plot after Deputy Collector, Margao, Surendra Naik, removed the seal put on the entrance last month to facilitate them to gain entry inside.

The officials went about measuring the length and breadth of the plot and the quantum of hazardous waste stacked inside. Collectorate sources said the plot would be re-sealed after the inspection.

The Deputy Collector had earlier this month removed the seal from Plot-3 of The Axis. Meanwhile, local residents have cried foul over the dilly dallying tactics by the concerned agencies in tackling the hazardous waste from the site.  Kamlesh Prabhugaonkar told newsmen at the site that the hazardous waste has been lying at the site for over seven years now, but there seems to be no urgency to remove the waste.
