PANJIM: After Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s intervention,
Additional Solicitor General Atmaram Nadkarni has been granted permission to
represent Goa in the Mhadei Water Dispute Tribunal.

&n Justice, Government of India, in a letter addressed to Ameya Abhayankar,
Secretary to chief minister has conveyed that Nadkarni has been granted
permission to represent Goa.

“The undersigned is directed to honourable chief
minister’s letter dated 03/02/2017 conveying withdrawal of permission granted
to Shri Atmaram Nadkarni, ld ASG for appearing before Mhadeyi Inter-State River
Dispute Tribunal and to State that after reconsidering the matter, permission
has been granted to Mr Nadkarni for appearing before the tribunal on behalf of
state of Goa in relaxation of rules, with clear stipulation that his appearance
will be as an advocate and not ASG,” the letter reads.
In February, the central government had withdrawn the
permission given to the additional solicitor general Atmaram Nadkarni to
represent Goa government in the Mhadei water diversion case before the Mhadei
water disputes tribunal (MWDT).
Following which, then chief minister Laxmikant
Parsekar had written to the central ministry to reconsider the decision.
