PONDA: Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) Chairperson Dr Radhika Nayak along with some councillors met Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar to discuss the issue pertaining to new Ponda Market Complex.
However, this did not go well with some councillors who claimed they were not invited for the meeting.
According to information, Dr Nayak along with Deputy Chairperson Shantaram Kolvekar and seven other councillors met the chief minister to sort out the issue pertaining to the new market complex at Upper Bazar, Ponda. It is learnt that five councillors, who were not present for the meeting, expressed unhappiness claiming that they were not invited.
However, Dr Nayak said the meeting was impromptu and was only with one agenda.“The meeting was not planned and no one should feel hurt. We got an appointment at the very last moment and whoever was free at that moment came for the meet,” said Dr Nayak.
According to sources, the alleged discomfort within the council is a clear sign that some councillors are now divided.
Even though the council is literally without opposition, rumours are widespread that there were efforts to unseat Dr Nayak from the chairperson’s post.
Councillor Irwin Soares, “From the beginning, we, all the 14 councillors, are united and our only motto is to work towards all-round development of the city.”
