PONDA: The State Election Commission has decided to hold the Ponda Municipal Council election on May 12 and a notification will be issued on or before April 18.
State Election Commissioner M Modassir informed that notification will be issued after DMA submits a report on ward reservations. “I have requested DMA to send the report as early as possible so that notification can be issued on or before April 18. We have decided to hold the election on May 12,” said Modassir.
It may be recalled that earlier this month the State Election Commission had approached the High Court requesting permission to hold the Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) elections on May 12 in view of feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Ponda, which is to be celebrated on May 5.
It is learnt that the court has granted permission to the State Election Commission to hold the election on May 12.
