PONDA: It seems to be “divine intervention”. To make Chaturthi buying and selling spree hassle-free, the Ponda Municipal Council has decided to shift the Ganesh festival celebration from the road area to a place behind the market complex area. Among other things, the PMC will also open up the basement parking facility which can house 90 cars. It will also shift Matoli Bazar and fish vendors to decongest the area.
The PMC has drawn up a blueprint to rectify the parking problem in a major way to make room for buyers during the festive season.
There is provision to park 60 cars on the approach road (populary known as Airport Road) of the market behind the complex. Entry to the basement will be from the right side of market ramp and exit will be from the left ramp at the basement. Work on this is in progress.
Further there is provision to park around 350 two-wheelers around the market and airport road. This decision will be strictly implemented during Ganesh Festival. Besides this, tempo and mini-truck operators have also been ordered to shift to Panditwada-Varkhandem road or to approach road of market. PMC will inaugurate the basement Parking facility on Wednesday.
Another important decision taken by the Budhwar Peth Market Ganeshotav Mandal Celebration is to shift operations from main road of market to behind Ponda market complex ground floor. This will help decongest the area and also help two-wheeler parking. Besides, Ganesh Festival, Matoli Bazar Vendors will be shifted to airport road. This area will also provide parking for buyers and sellers.
The PMC will also widen the narrow pathway of the market from the existing 1.5 metre to 4 metre. This work is over.
