PANJIM: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sunil Garg on Wednesday reiterated the police proposal to have electronic dance music (EDMs) festivals in different districts and on different dates
Garg said, “Goa Police have been often objecting to EDMs being held at the same time and last year had suggested to have one EDM festival in the South of Goa while the other in North, and has done the same this year, as it becomes convenient for the police as well as traffic cell to give protection to the people.”
He was speaking at the ceremony to flag off motorcycles for the police force and said these were essential. He added that this is the first phase of allotment of motorcycles and that the bikes will be upgraded with sirens and wireless sets for quick communication.
Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar said that an amount of Rs 32,69,082 was sanctioned in 2016 towards the purchase of 69 motorcycles. He said that the motorcycles have been allotted to strengthen the existing mobility to maintain law and order, beat system, traffic duties, collection of intelligence, tenant verification and passport verification.
He said Goa is a tourist destination and in recent times there has been an increase in tourist arrivals by almost 30 to 35 percent and this is another reason for the allotment of bikes as the police can take quick action to protect citizens.
He also stated that of the 69 motorcycles, 20 will be allotted to North district, 19 to the South district, 10 to traffic cell, 5 to special branch and 14 to the coastal security police station and other units.
