MARGAO: The Traffic Police have been asked to conduct a survey of the traffic moving at the Old Market traffic circle for the next three days and accordingly prepare a chart and decide the timings to be given for the traffic.
Town and Country Planning Minister Vijai Sardessai, along with Margao MLA Digambar Kamat, were seen discussing this issue with DySP Prabod Shirwaikar and Superintendent of Police Dinraj Govekar.
The police were given very clear instructions to prepare a chart stating how much traffic was coming on all four sides of the circle at regular intervals and accordingly fix the timers of the traffic signal. “Give more time for vehicles to move on the side where there is more traffic and less time where there is less traffic,” said Digambar Kamat.
“What irritates people is that they are facing a red signal when there is no traffic moving on the other side showing green signal and that has to change,” said Vijai Sardessai who also revealed that the government is even willing to do away with the traffic circle if necessary.
“The world over the pattern is no traffic circles where there is a traffic signal so maybe we shall have to do that here,” he said while apologising to the people for the hardships they are facing and asking them to bear up with the government.
