IGP Sunil Garg, SP South Shekhar Prabhudessai and SP crime Karthik Kashyap told a press conference that the entire criminal conspiracy was hatched in Sada jail and one inmate, a murder undertrial Anil from Belgaum, was arrested and taken into custody Thursday. The anti-burglary squad of the Crime Branch also apprehended and arrested Rahul Jyothibha Jadhav resident of APMC market yard, Kangrali, Mahadev road, Belgaum. Both were remanded to police custody till Feb 4.
A third accused, Mohammed Saddique resident of Ponda and originally from Uttar Pradesh and an ex-convict was arrested Friday at 5 pm. A green colour swift used in the crime was also recovered.
A police team has been dispatched outside Goa to apprehend the remaining accused.
It may be recalled that in a daring robbery that shocked the State, burglars armed with clubs, broke into a bungalow of Raj Gomes (60), general manager of Salgaoncar Institute of Hotel Management and assaulted him and his wife Isabel Gomes (55), at Kirbhat-Nuvem, by removing the grills of the back window of the house recently.
The robbers first went to the top floor room where the couple’s son-in-law and his wife were asleep and latched it from outside. Then they went down to the room where Raj Gomes and his wife were sleeping and assaulted them. Raj was injured seriously and was operated upon.
