Two daring daylight burglaries rule out involvement of ‘chaddi’ gang

MARGAO: The police are trying to ascertain whether any splinter group of the Pune gang is behind the two daring daylight burglaries reported in the commercial capital this week.
Margao Sub-divisional Police Officer, DySP Mohan Naik, said the police had nabbed members of the Pune gang last year after a spate of daylight burglaries in the city. He, however, said that the police are now trying to find out whether any splinter group of the main gang has organized itself after the police action last year.
“During this time last year, Margao had recorded spate of daylight burglaries. Finally, the police managed to lay their hands on a gang from Pune, which was working in a systematic manner while committing the burglaries,” he said.
Replying to a question, he said the police are working on a clue vis-à-vis the gang involved in the daylight burglaries in the city.
While the Margao police were initially suspecting the involvement of the “chaddi gang” in the spate of night burglaries, this week’s two daylight burglaries have completely baffled the men-in-uniform.
First, the gang targeted an apartment owned by Jessica Fernandes near the busy Hari Mandir locality, decamping with gold ornaments worth over Rs seven lakh. This was followed by the daring burglary in the second floor apartment of Benica D’Gama, lifting away cash and gold ornaments valued over Rs 30 lakh.
