Police drive away those collecting clams at Dabolim

Vasco: Police on Tuesday, drove away those people who had entered the river bed, near Vareg island, opposite St. Anthony’s Cross at Dabolim, to collect sea water clams.

It may be recalled that recently the Chicalim Biodiversity Management Committee (CBMC) of the Chicalim Panchayat had requested locals to stay at home and desist from going in group to collect clams amidst the lockdown which is being imposed to combat CoVOD19 spread.

However, according to sources, people not from the locality, made an attempt to collect the clams from the sensitive habitat site but the timely intervention of Vasco police stopped the same.

Sources said the local community had stayed away following the appeals made by CBMC and police.
