MARGAO: With the police busting sex rackets along the North Goa coast, social activists have called for pro-active role by the men-in-uniform to keep a tab on the movement of pimps along the tourist village of Colva.
Many an eyebrow had been raised over the presence of a woman pimp at Colva beach a week ago along with a group of girls. Besides, fears have been raised that some unknown youth are involved in the flesh trade by supplying girls from outside the state to customers in some of the notorious establishments.
Says Colva Civic and Consumer Forum Secretary Judith Almeida, “We strongly suspect that pimps from outside the state are actively operating in Colva. They are involved in bringing girls from outside the state for the purpose of prostitution. We have passed on the information to the police machinery, but there’s no action forthcoming from the men-in-uniform.”
She said the police should try to investigate the role of some youth operating on two-wheelers in supplying girls to customers. “A week ago, I found a youth transporting a girl, who came in a car with her face and head covered. I find something fishy and the police should act fast against the operators,” she said, adding that the police should study the modus operandi adopted by the pimps.
Last year, the police had arrested a pimp and had rescued girls, who were lured into the sex trade. Investigations had revealed that the victims were brought from Mumbai and Bengal for the purpose of prostitution.
