Sources said the investigating team tracked the last call on Lakhpat Jain’s mobile phone, which was recovered from the crime scene earlier this month.
“The caller has been tracked in Delhi. He could possibly shed more light on the case. A team has left for Delhi on Friday night,” a police officer told Herald.
In another breakthrough, the police, through the CCTV footage, has identified three persons who were seen walking out with Jain from an off-shore casino.
The Panjim police converted the unnatural death into homicide based on circumstantial evidence collected during the investigation. The Ahmednagar native’s family had been demanding to probe the death as murder, even as the post mortem ruled out any injuries on his body. The cause of death is reserved pending chemical analysis report.
The gold ornaments on his person and two of the three mobile phones, he normally carried were also missing.
In addition to section 302 (murder) of the IPC, the Panjim police has also added sections 201 (destruction of evidence) and 390 (robbery) against the culprits.
