PANJIM: A Judicial Magistrate First Class at Mapusa has granted permission to the Mapusa police to investigate the alleged violation of election code of conduct by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal.
An application in this respect was filed by the Mapusa police after receiving a complaint from returning officer Gurudas Desai that during an election meeting held in February 2017, at Mapusa, Kejriwal asked the voters to ‘accept money from rival parties, but vote for AAP’.
On January 8, 2017, Kejriwal had allegedly asked voters at a rally in Mapusa to demand Rs 10,000 if rival parties offered them Rs 5,000 and then vote for Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
Police registered complaint of returning officer Desai as non-cognizable offence and subsequently filed an application seeking the permission of the court to investigate the case. The case will next be heard on June 26, when the police have to file their report.
