Police release helpline to report bullfights

PANJIM: The Goa Police on Saturday released designated telephone numbers and asked members of the public to call or send messages to report bullfight or dhirio events organised illegally in the State.

“Members of the public can call the helpline number i.e. 112 or Whatsapp number 7875756000 to inform them of any pending or ongoing bull fight. Further, the public are informed that they can also login on website of Goa Police i.e. www.goapolice.gov.in to inform of any in pending bull fight or call the concerned nodal officers,” a press release by office of the Superintendent of Police, Anti-Narcotic Cell, said.

The police department also issued numbers of its officers, who can be contacted for reporting bullfights. While North Goa district has 13 nodal officers, there are 15 nodal officers in South Goa district 

The action has been taken in compliance with the order of the High Court, which had sought an action plan from the government to curb bullfights in the State government. The High Court is hearing contempt petition filed by the People for Animals, who had alleged that the State authorities were turning a blind eye to the illegal activity of organising bullfights in the State.
