MARGAO: South Goa SP Shekhar Prabhudessai has informed that every police station will have a ‘senior citizens’ assistance committee’ to provide any kind of assistance to senior citizens in distress and also offer them counselling.
“By means of this committee, we want to make the law enforcement system senior-citizen friendly. Now any senior citizen can come directly to the police station with their problems,” said Prabhudessai.
He was speaking at a meeting of the district committee for the welfare of parents and senior citizens at the Matanhy Saldanha Complex, Margao, on Wednesday. Collector Sachin Shinde, who heads the committee, convened the meeting to review the issues pertaining to senior citizens of South Goa.
The panel will publicise the senior citizens’ helpline ‘1090’ and pay special attention to their rights.
