PANJIM: With a team of Crime Branch soon to leave for Lucknow, to map the events in the sequence of their happenings, all those who came in contact with fake minister Sunil Singh during his stay in Goa will have to join the ongoing investigation.
Interestingly, one of many persons the conman met was Cooperation Minister Govind Gaude. The two held a meeting in the ministerial block, after which Singh also attended a school function at Canacona, where he was invited as chief guest in the presence of BJP leader and former minister Prakash Velip.
The investigation team is, however, tightlipped on the identity of persons who would be summoned for questioning. “We have examined a few who came in contact with Singh in Goa. All relevant persons’ statements will be recorded. We need not disclose their names as it is a part of investigation,” Crime Branch SP Pankaj Kumar Singh told Herald.
Singh, on his arrival to Goa prior to Christmas 2019, stayed at the State Guest House, Altinho for almost 12 days before being caught. The ‘minister’ had produced fake documents to identify himself as UP minister to avail benefits, including police security. He had sought an appointment with Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant but his suspicious behaviour landed him in the police net.
The Police Security Officer, assigned to him, is also likely to be examined. The Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Mapusa on Friday extended police remand of Singh and his four associates by another four days.
A team will soon be dispatched to Lucknow for verification, SP Singh said. “We want to complete the chain of sequence of events for which our team will go to Lucknow. We are verifying his educational qualification, place he worked, etc. Once our team is back we will be armed with more information pertaining to the case,” he said.
