The reasons for the neglect, according to him, included lack of provisions for maintenance and infrastructure, and more importantly, inefficient teachers in primary schools.
Parsekar was speaking at the Golden Jubilee celebration of GVM Pragati Vidyalaya Borim on Sunday. He further said that lack of good teachers lead to an improper understanding of English, which affected the future prospects of students.
To counter this, he informed that the government would appoint 275 teachers in government primary schools from the current academic year. The teachers would ensure a higher standard of English education.
He added, “The BJP government has improved the standard of education since 2000 under then chief minister Manohar Parrikar. Now it is also providing grants-cum-loans worth crores of rupees for the future of students and Goans. This is a non-profit investment in the interest of society.”
Parsekar and Industries Minister Mahadev Naik also felicitated around 60 teachers, headmasters, retired staff and students of GVM schools at the event.
Naik appealed to the Chief Minister to sanction Rs 35.37 lakh for the development of Pragati High School, which completed 50 years. The CM assured him the amount.
