PONDA: The Election Code of Conduct (ECoC) has had an immediate impact on the Shigmo celebrations in Ponda, with politicians left out of the Shigmostav Celebration Committee (SCC).
This time around, the government officials will have the honour of leading the forthcoming Shigmo celebration scheduled to take place on March 16.
Since the last many years, various politicians, including ministers, MLAs, councillors and panchayat members were invariably included in the SCC.
But with the ECoC in place, no minister, legislator or councillor has been included in the SCC, which is now headed by Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) Chief Officer Johnson Fernandes. The SCC will include various government officials instead.
In a news release, Fernandes stated that the PMC along with the Goa Tourism Development Corporation will organise the annual Shigmo festival at Ponda on March 16 from 3 pm onwards. The Shigmo contest will include the chitrarath (float), romtamel, folk dance and fancy dress.
