PANJIM: Clube Sao Miguel de Taleigao moved into semi-finals of the Quadros Suzuki football trophy with a hardfought 1-0 victory over a fighting St. Anthony Sports club Marna-Siolim organised by Goa Velha SC, at Goa Velha ground, on Wednesday.
The scores were level at half time.
St. Anthony went straight into action as Ryan D’Souza after receiving the ball from Vipul shot powerfully but could not beat Taleigao keeper Shanu.
The action drifted to the Marna goal with Levino sending a long pass to Cedric and the latter dribbled past Marna defender Dylan, but his placement was smartly collected by keeper Salil.
Just before the break Raymond sent a powerful header towards goal but a full length dive by Taleigao keeper Shanu kept the ball out.
After the break the Marna-Siolim boys came back strongly but Raymond was guilty of missing a gilt edged chance from handshaking distance as he failed to tap in a pass. Raymond’s curling free-kick was then brilliantly fisted away by Shanu.
Cedric secured the precious winner for the Taleigao team with a stunning header of a corner taken by Levino. St. Anthony had a chance to equalise but a Sangam header flew over the Taleigao goal.
