MARGAO: Even at difficult times like this that people are going through, politicians do not seem to have forgotten the tricks of the trade to claim credit for whatever little facilities or help they render to the people even though they are supposed to do so.
The administration has now appointed councillors in municipal areas and panchas in villages as volunteers to distribute material to the people. Doris Texeira representing ward No. 15 of Margao has distributed vegetables and other material to the migrants living near her husband’s house at Pedda and surrounding areas and asked the people from Sirvodem to go to a general store that is open.

Ex-councillor Zarina Shah distributed sugar, atta and rawa to migrant women at her house and the distribution was done by her family members. Ironically, in the bargain, the middle class has been totally ignored and have to run helter-skelter to get some basic ingredients like even salt.
Meanwhile, Margao MLA and Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat opined that the hardships faced by people will now stop as grocery shops opened their shutters and the Horticulture Corporation managed kiosks also started selling vegetables.
While expressing gratitude to the people for bearing with the hardships, he said, “People living in housing societies in Aquem and Malbhat areas were provided essential commodities by Borkar Super Stores, Magsons and Prabhu Stores while those living in Comba were helped by Monginis.
He said their volunteers are making sure that people coming to make purchases maintain social distance besides also ensuring that the sales are carried out smoothly.
