PANJIM: “In the Governor’s speech, I have only mentioned the words ‘new government at the centre’, why do you have to take it to mean Narendra Modi,’” Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar asked with a smirk, while replying to the motion of thanks to the Governor’s address.
Parrikar said that the insecurities of the Opposition leaders were revealed by the objections they have raised to such usage. “When I say new government, it could be anyone. It could be Mulayam Singh or Nitish Kumar, why do you have to take it to mean Narendra Modi?” Parrikar asked.
Leader of Opposition in his comments on the amendments to the motion had termed those lines in the Governor’s speech as “wishful thinking”. Other opposition leaders too had condemned the usage.
“The reason why you are thinking of Narendra Modi is because he is your biggest nightmare,” Parrikar said adding that all the polls suggested that Narendra Modi was all set to become the next Prime Minister of the country.
“It is for the people of the country to decide. We have not said anything about particular government. They see Narendra Modi in their minds,” he said.
“In Goa the Congress was reduced to single digits. At the central level they will not even reach two figures,” Parrikar said, making no bones for his support of his party’s controversial Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi.
Parrikar also made several references to Narendra Modi even to the extent of saying that he was trying to emulate his administrative acumen.
“If Modi comes to power there will be an administrative system in place where the work is automatically efficient and he does not have to do it himself,” Parrikar said. “I want to start that same system, which is why I will not go to Delhi,” Parrikar added.
He chided Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde for not giving him “proper police officers” to maintain law and order in the state.
