HERALD REPORTER
PANJIM, FEB 20
Goa State Pollution Control Board today issued show cause notices to off-shore casino operators to explain how they dispose off garbage and sewage from the vessels.
Sources said that the notices were issued based on discussion witnessed in the recently held session of Goa Assembly where the issue of licences issued to them was hotly debated.
In the assembly, some members including Opposition Leader Manohar Parrikar had demanded to know how some of vessels were disposing off their garbage and sewage. It was also alleged that they have no permission from Goa State Pollution Control Board and that they were dumping garbage and sewage into River Mandovi.
Sources said that the casino vessels are operating when no NOC has been granted to them under Water Act.
The Pollution Control Board has warned that strict action would be taken against the operators if they have no facility for disposing off garbage and sewage.
