Ponda decides to adopt pay parking

PONDA: Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) has resolved to implement pay parking system in the prime spaces of the city to curb parking woes of motorists.
After the monthly meeting, PMC Chairperson Pradeep Naik informed that the issue of parking spaces was discussed.
“It has been noticed that shortage of parking spaces is caused due to blocking of designated parking spaces by day long parking by some motorists in prime spaces of the town, at Indira Market, old bus stand, near police station and open space in front of market complex. We have decided to adopt a pay parking system in these three identified parking areas so that this day long parking could be curbed and people coming to the town would get a parking space”, he stated.
He further said that by implementing pay parking, PMC expects to not only curb the parking problems by bringing in discipline and provide spaces to road users to park their vehicles but also add revenue to Municipality coffers. He claimed that office goers, industrial workers and even daily vendors park their vehicles in these parking spaces early morning and proceed to their workplaces. The vehicles are parked through the day and taken back only in the late evenings when the owners return from work.
Naik said “Therefore, thousands of people visiting the town during the day face hardships due to lack of parking space leading to indiscipline and traffic congestion. After implementing pay parking system, we hope that it would sort out the parking problem in town”.
