Kamat: It is sad to see that Ponda is a victim of petty politics being played by the older generation politicians. Ponda is known as the cultural capital of Goa, and goes by the name Antruz Mahal. It is time for youth to take over and develop Ponda. Many senior leaders from different political parties stay in Ponda but it is sad to say that the constituency has not got the attention it deserves. I will see that much-needed systematic development happens in Ponda after 2017 Assembly elections; and for this we need to take Ponda citizens into confidence to hear their views.
Herald: Has any development taken place in Ponda recently?
Kamat: Placing of interlocking pavers on the footpath without any plan is not development. Many trees have been cut in the name of development, but not a single sapling has been planted in their place . No visible development has happened. Building concrete structures doesn’t mean development. Development happens by empowering Ponda citizens and not by giving out festival doles .
Herald: What are the problems faced by Ponda?
Kamat: Sewerage is a must for Ponda due to the number of buildings and constructions. Controlled Traffic Management is required. Garbage problem, underground electricity cabling, old water pipelines need to be replaced, problem of stray cattle on roads, undeveloped open spaces in municipality and panchayat areas which need be taken up for beautification and development. A jogger’s park with facilities for senior citizens as well the generation next youngsters should be introduced.
