PONDA: Ponda MLA Ravi Naik has condemned the government for police for lathi-charge on mining dependents who were protesting on Monday demanding immediate restart of mining.
Addressing the media at Ponda on Wednesday, Ravi said that the lathi-charging is the evidence that “there is no more democracy in Goa, and the Goans are experiencing dictatorship which is forced upon Goa by the Central government.”
He also demanded an inquiry into the incident of lathi-charge.
He alleged that Union Minister for Road and Shipping Nitin Gadkari came for inauguration of Ferryboat service in Goa, and later he met with the mines dependent, he failed to give any respite to the mining dependents. “He need not come to Goa to say that he can’t do much above the SC order,” Ravi said and claimed that there were lot of options before the government to restart mining.
Ravi alleged that Gadkari was threatening the MGP and Goa Forward Party against withdrawing support for the government.
When asked whether MGP and Goa Forward Party should leave the government if they are under pressure from Nitin Gadakari, he said it was up to these party leaders whether to come out of the government or not.
