Chairperson of Ponda Municipal Council Ritesh Naik on Thursday announced council’s decision to initiate the installation of Artificial Intelligence (AI) cameras in select prime locations within the city. Chairperson Naik revealed that the move is a part of a one-month pilot project on a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode. If successful, the PMC plans to extend the installation of these advanced cameras to critical areas across the city, with a provision for twenty-five years of maintenance.
An Infotech company has approached the council with a proposal in this regard, and after thorough deliberations, the council gave its approval. Chairperson Naik highlighted the significance of AI cameras in enhancing vigilance, contributing to the safety and security of the city, especially in areas like schools and markets. The automatic system integrated into these cameras is designed to detect incidents and promptly share information about thefts with the police and, in case of accidents, with emergency services such as 108 and nearby hospitals.
Additionally, the PMC passed a resolution expressing appreciation for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s inauguration of the Ram Mandir. The council also disclosed plans to conduct a Sopo Tax Auction soon, targeting the collection of sopo taxes outside the Porida Market area, with a base price set at 41 lakhs. Furthermore, the PMC is set to introduce automatic cloth vending machines in prime market areas in collaboration with MRE company to discourage the use of plastic bags.
In a bid to address environmental concerns, the council approved a proposal by Parsekar Foods for the installation of a rendering machine dedicated to treating wet garbage, including chicken, mutton, and fish waste. The company intends to utilize the treated waste to prepare poultry feed at their own expense. Meanwhile, construction work has already commenced on a 5 Tons Per Day (TPD) waste treatment plant at Kerya. Additionally, the Curti Khandepar Panchayat has granted permission for the PMC to establish a 5 TPS bio-gas plant at the same location.
