PONDA: Tension prevailed in Khadpabandh, Ponda, on Sunday, after locals demanded with Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) to reconsider disposing chicken and fish waste from Ponda market at Khadpabandh hill, which PMC was doing by digging pits and burying the waste.
Speaking to media persons, Ganesh Divkar and some locals demanded with PMC to reconsider its plan to dispose such waste, as since last one month the stench is unbearable.
MP Adv Narendra Savaikar, a resident of Khadpabandh, said nobody should play politics and should help PMC to sort out the issue, while former chief minister Ravi Naik said disposal of waste close to residential areas should be avoided. Councillor Shivanand Sawant also expressed similar views.
When contacted, PMC garbage management committee president and councillor Venkatesh Naik and Vishwanath Dalvi who were present at the site said the waste was from PMC market and the disposal site area is away from any residential area. They said NOC has been obtained from the landlord and asked the people to give some time for proper disposal of waste.
