Dhavalikar was speaking at the Martyr’s Memorial in Ponda during a function to observe Goa Revolution Day on Thursday. He further said that the Kranti Maidan beautification project in Ponda would be inaugurated on December 19, in the presence of Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar.
Speaking about the toll imposed on vehicles entering Goa, Dhavalikar stated that the government had lost around Rs 1,100 crore due to the mining closure, and so the tax was necessary to ease the exchequer’s burden. However, he said the government would try to withdraw it.
Out of the Rs 1,000 crore for development works, Dhavalikar informed that Rs 200 crore had been sanctioned for a sewage treatment plant. The project’s earlier estimate was 400 crore, but was curtailed due to lack of funds.
He added that criticism of any project would be welcomed provided it was constructive. He stated that he had modified the Kranti Maidan beautification plan because of constructive criticism.
