PONDA: Irked over the traffic congestion in the town on account of the ongoing sewerage work, Pondaites have demanded that additional traffic police personnel be deployed to ensure the smooth flow of traffic.
The locals complained that there is traffic congestion from Tisk Junction to Daag-Kavlem Road, where sewerage work is progressing with huge chambers dug along the route.
The residents further claimed that they are forced to undergo hardship on account of the work as serpentine queues lead to traffic congestion along the route.
The locals complained that parking of vehicles along the roadside is further leading to the congestion at Daag-Ponda.
Naresh Naik, a daily commuter said, “A lone traffic policeman is seen opposite the Ponda Court Building manning the traffic. However, more traffic police personnel are needed to ensure smooth traffic movement. To make matters worse, vehicles are parked by the roadside near government building at Tisk-Ponda.”
The locals complained that due to the sewerage work, the Daag-Ponda road has been closed for heavy traffic and only four-wheelers and two-wheelers are allowed to commute along the route. The condition of the road has turned from bad to worse on account of the sewerage work. Buses on Ponda –Marcaim route are diverted via Dhavalim. Despite this, the roads at Tisk Ponda and Daag-Ponda are witnessing traffic congestion.
Locals claimed that the traffic police are busy in issuing challans. They should also ensure the smooth flow of traffic. A traffic official assured to look into matter and come out with a solution at the earliest.
