PANJIM: South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha said that he had put up the Portuguese citizenship issue before Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh for consideration.
The issue has surfaced after a series of court cases brought out in the open that there were more than a lakh Goans who had registered with the Portuguese government including some politicians and government servants.
“The State government cannot do anything about this,” Sardinha told media Tuesday morning.
He also touched on the issue of illegal mining saying that the state government was doing nothing on mining issue after crying hoarse that there were large scams.
“What is the government doing?’ he asked, arguing that earlier, Parrikar was “shouting from the rooftops” that Goa had suffered loss due to illegal mining.
Asking the chief minister to identify the guilty miners, Sardinha questioned, “Why have these people not been booked? Why has the loss not been recovered?”
