As per the notification, the tariff for domestic and non commercial use is 14 paisa per unit for the first 60 units, 21 paisa per unit for 61 to 250 units, 33 paisa per unit for 251 to 500 units and 39 paisa per unit for above 500 units.
The tariff for commercial establishments was set at 37 paisa per unit for the first 100 units and 54 paisa per unit for 101 to 1000 units.
Earlier the electricity tariff was priced at 12 paisa per unit for the first 60 units, 17 paisa per unit for 61 to 250 units, 27.5 paisa per unit for 251 to 500 units and 32 paisa per unit for above 500 units for domestic and non commercial establishments.
The decision to levy a hike in the electricity tariff was initiated with a public meeting between the Goa government and Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission (JERC) Chairman S K Chaturvedi. During the meeting, the people were allowed to place before the chairman their suggestions and problems related to electricity in the state. JERC, in its report decided to impose a 14 percent hike instead of 19 percent as proposed by the Goa Electricity Department.
